Tingara Raises Japanese Gastronomy to the Stars at InterContinental Danang

Culinary maestro Junichi Yoshida dazzles diners at this theatrical, multi-sensory Japanese dining experience, with a blend of Japan’s finest ingredients and Central Vietnam’s natural produce

InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, the five-star sanctuary nestled in 39 hectares of lush jungle on the Son Tra Peninsula, continues to raise the bar for gastronomy in Central Vietnam with the launch of Tingara, a spectacular and theatrical new Japanese restaurant that sets the scene for a vibrant new style of interactive fine dining.

Derived from the Okinawan word for the Milky Way (or “River of Stars”), Tingara is perched high in the rainforest mountains of Son Tra, with 360-degree views of the forest, ocean and starlit skies. In this stunning setting, guests will have a front row seat to the culinary theatre of teppanyaki and sushi dishes by Consulting Chef Junichi Yoshida, who hails from Okinawa and achieved a Michelin star at his acclaimed restaurants in Tokyo and at Koki in Hanoi.

With similar coastal and sub-tropical climates, Okinawa and Danang have a natural harmony. Blending Japan’s finest imported ingredients, such as Hokkaido scallops, Chiba lobster and Kuroge wagyu beef, with fresh Vietnamese herbs and vegetables, Chef Junichi crafts dishes that change with the seasons, underpinned by his time-honoured “shuhari” Japanese philosophy, which is defined by a gradual transcendence to culinary perfection.

In every part of Tingara, guests are able to interact with the chefs and learn the story of their dish, from the provenance of the recipe to the ingredients used to create it. A teppanyaki expert, Chef Junichi uses his traditional Teppan and Robata Grill to transport diners on a multi-sensory journey through sight, sound, taste and aroma, brought to life at every stage by the skill and passion of this culinary maestro. Guests should not miss Chef Junichi’s famous signature dish, Ultimate Crispy Steak – a prime cut of wagyu beef, slow-cooked until wonderfully tender then finished over a high heat using Kishu Bincyotan charcoal.

Couples and friends can also experience an epicurean adventure with Chef Tetsuhiko Isozaki, Tingara’s Chef de Cuisine. An authentic Japanese Teppanyaki Counter experience sees the chef guide the guest journey and tailor each dish to the diner’s palate. With intimate seating, diners can watch the artistry unfold with a captivating performance enriched with personal stories.

Finally, Sushi Head Chef Tsuneyoshi Taira uses the highest grade seafood, either sourced locally or imported from top suppliers, to artistically craft nigiri, sashimi, and specialty rolls at the Sushi Bar, in a style that cannot be found anywhere else in Vietnam. And of course, all of these gastronomic delights can be paired with an extensive beverage menu including Japanese sake, shochu and whisky, exciting cocktails, fine wines and Japanese teas, curated by Tri Tran, the talented sake sommelier.

Tingara’s open kitchen concept is enhanced by Bill Bensley’s original interior design, which immerses guests in the natural tapestries of forest and ocean.

“We are delighted to unveil Tingara, which is set to become one of the most desirable places to dine in Central Vietnam. Chef Junichi and his team are masters of the art of Japanese cuisine, each with his own unique specialty and exquisite skill. With its unparalleled combination of culinary art and creativity in a dramatic rainforest setting, enhanced by Bill Bensley’s quirky design and panoramic views of the forest and ocean, this is not only a place to dine – it is a multi-sensory adventure that will live long in the memory,” said Seif Hamdy, General Manager, InterContinental Danang.

Tingara complements InterContinental Danang’s collection of dazzling dining destinations, including La Maison 1888, the elegant French restaurant which achieved a Michelin star in 2024, Citron, which presents authentic local and seasonal dishes from Vietnam’s distinct northern, central and southern regions, and Barefoot, the chic beachside grill that spills from a thatched wooden pavilion directly onto the golden sand.
